Suresh Mahalingam

Professor Suresh Mahalingam is a leading viral immunologist and Principal Research Leader at the Institute for Biomedicine and Glycomics and Griffith Health. He leads the Emerging Viruses, Inflammation, and Therapeutics (EVIT) Group and serves as Director of the Global Virus Network (GVN) Centre of Excellence in Arbovirology at Griffith University. His research focuses on the pathogenesis of mosquito-borne and respiratory viruses and the development of countermeasures. He has been instrumental in bridging fundamental and clinical research, leading to groundbreaking discoveries that have resulted in drugs and vaccines licensed to industry for the treatment of viral diseases. Professor Mahalingam is a Fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology, the Australian Society for Microbiology, and the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia. He also serves as the American Society for Microbiology’s Country Ambassador to Australia and is the current President of the Asia Pacific Society for Medical Virology. Additionally, he was a member of the World Health Organization (WHO) Technical Advisory Group on Arboviruses, further underscoring his expertise and contributions to the field.
